Reminiscent of the old west, riders mounted mules and horses
for a 3 Mile Mule Race, 3 Mile Horse Race and the SSMA
Playday which had 110 participants. This was one of our
largest crowds with approximately 450 spectators throughout
the four day event. People came from several states away
Texas, Arkansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana
and Oklahoma. We always enjoy meeting new people, visiting
with long time friends, trail riding and look forward to all the
SSMA activities.

this??? Tally has already signed up for next year!

Every year during the fall event a drawing is held for a SSMA
registered colt, donated by Rickman Mustangs. This year's
lucky winner was Sandra Hass, of Krebs, Oklahoma.

The SSMA, along with some great cooks, Mark Houston and
Mark Robertson provided us lunch of brisket with lots of
trimmings, hot dogs, snacks and drinks. Lunch was served by
Mark & Carla Houston, great job and thanks for all
donations.

Event coordinators, Bryant Rickman and Sisty Monroe
sincerely appreciate all our sponsors and participants who
help make these events a success. Sisty Monroe, states that the
Southwest Spanish Mustang Association for many years has
hosted these bi-annual events, which boost the economy of
Pushmataha County. Not only during these times, but year
round, visitors come from far and near to inquire about the
history of SSMA, Gilbert H. Jones and the Spanish Mustang
Horses, such as the Hidalgo Movie and Blackjack Mountain.
These visitors dine at local restaurants, stay overnight in
local motels, purchase feed, gas, groceries and other items
from local merchants.
As well as, enjoying  the natural environment and beauty that
Pushmataha County has to offer.
